What buyers actually pay per square meter
Acoustic panel pricing is confusing because the same product is quoted three different ways: retail per-panel, retail per-square-meter, and factory EXW/FOB per-square-meter. Retail in North America and Europe typically lands between $60 and $90 per square meter for decorative wood slat panels, while the same specification leaves a Linyi factory at roughly $12.6 to $14 per square meter. The gap is not quality. It is the number of hands the panel passes through: brand, importer, distributor, retailer.
Price breakdown by panel type
- PET polyester felt panels (9mm): the lowest cost per square meter and the best absorption-to-price ratio. Ideal for large ceiling and wall areas, offices, classrooms.
- Wood slat acoustic panels (MDF slat + PET felt backing): priced by slat finish. Real wood veneer costs more than melamine; the felt backing thickness drives both price and NRC.
- UV printed panels: base panel cost plus a print setup charge. Setup is fixed, so the unit price drops sharply after the first few hundred square meters.
- PVC acoustic panels: mid-range, chosen where moisture resistance matters more than absorption.
The five variables that move your quote
- Thickness: 9mm vs 12mm felt. Thicker felt means more material and a higher NRC. See our comparison in 9mm vs 12mm PET felt.
- Facing material: melamine, real wood veneer, or PVC film.
- Size and format: standard 2400x600mm panels are cheapest. Custom sizes add cutting waste and labor.
- Fire rating: Class A per ASTM E84 requires certified material and testing. Worth every cent for commercial projects - read what Class A means for importers.
- Order volume: a full container spreads fixed costs. Below a certain quantity, freight per square meter dominates the landed cost.
Do not compare quotes without matching these
Before you compare two suppliers, confirm that both quotes include the same thickness, the same fire rating, the same facing, and the same Incoterms. A $2 difference per square meter is meaningless if one quote is EXW Qingdao and the other is DDP Chicago. Freight, duties, and inland delivery can add 30 to 60 percent to the factory price.
How to get an accurate number
Send us the total square meters, the panel type, the thickness, the fire rating you need, and the destination port. We quote factory price and estimated landed cost separately so you can see exactly where the money goes. Request a wholesale quote or browse the wood slat and polyester ranges first.
